🌊🦀 Deep sea discovery in action!
This week, our students explored the mysteries of the deep sea and learned all about horseshoe crabs — which aren’t actually crabs at all! 🕷️
Horseshoe crabs are arachnids, related to scorpions and spiders. And just like scorpions, they glow a greenish-blue under a blacklight! ✨
Students designed and decorated their own glowing horseshoe crabs using highlighters — and watched them light up under blacklight! 🔦🌟
They also learned the difference between this cool glow (called fluorescence) and bioluminescence — the ability of creatures like fireflies and anglerfish to produce their own light. 🔥🐟
What an amazing way to combine art, science, and a little bit of glow-in-the-dark magic! 🌟🖍️🦑

🤝 Forging new relationships is important to TMSCA, and we’re excited to share a recent highlight! Our Director of Science & Innovation, Dr. Jay White, was invited to a special UNESCO event celebrating the upcoming release of the 2025 Global Education Monitoring Report. 🌎
Held in Manhattan, "Mother Nature in the Bardo" brought together artists, strategists, and UNESCO officials to explore the intersection of art, culture, education, and the environment. Dr. White had the opportunity to join event organizer Everard Findlay and Brown University`s Dr. Stephon Alexander — who we’re thrilled to announce will also join us for Talcott Together ’25!
👏 We’re proud to be part of these important conversations

🌸 TMSCA Spring Homeschool Programs have officially begun! 🌸
We had an amazing start, spotting hundreds of springtails gathered on a rock! 🪨✨
Springtails are tiny arthropods in the Class Collembola, Order Poduromorpha. They have adorable chunky bodies, short legs, and a special jumping mechanism called a furcula. While they mostly crawl across rocks and soil, if startled, they can spring into the air with impressive speed! 🚀
Springtails love gathering in groups, especially in moist areas. Don’t worry — they’re completely harmless and don’t bite! 🐾
If you spot some on your next nature walk, grab a magnifying glass and take a closer look. Their lively antics are sure to make you smile! 😍🔍

April Fools! 🎭 The Pre-Calculus students were thrilled to have just one homework problem… until they realized nobody got it right! 😱 But with teamwork, some colorful whiteboard strategy, and a little perseverance, they cracked the code. Lesson learned: sometimes, the trickiest problems are the most fun! 😂
