Welcome to the Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy, where students in grades K-8 embark on a thrilling journey of discovery and learning! Let us nurture your child’s passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hands-on learning in one or more of the following programs:
Talcott Mountain Academy — Where K-8 gifted and talented students thrive in a fun, challenging and supportive environment. With a full curriculum, differentiated instruction, and passionate teaching staff, students learn to ask questions, find answers, and unlock their full potential.
STEM Programs at Talcott Mountain — Encourage learning year-round with Talcott’s Summer of STEM Adventures, and Saturday & School Vacation programs for students in grades K-8. Talcott’s carefully crafted programs spark your child’s innate sense of curiosity with hands-on experiments and creative learning inspired by science and our mountaintop campus. As a result, they’re fully engaged in the learning process which helps them develop their teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ultimately, children realize that learning is fun, and they develop a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. 🌍🍂 Exciting Learning Adventures at Talcott Mountain Science Center! 🍂🌍
Last week, our students dove deep into the wonders of the Earth’s movement around the sun! We explored why the seasons change here in the Northeast, conducting a mini lab to understand how the Earth`s tilt affects more than just temperature.
Our nature study continues this week as we’ll tackle some intriguing questions: “Why do the leaves change color in the fall?” and “How do plants make oxygen for us to breathe?”
In Language Arts, we wrapped up our Symbolism Islands/Planets project. Students took turns giving imaginative tours of their islands—using our school as inspiration! These tours will enhance their writing as they prepare to share their creative ideas.

EARTH SCIENCE WEEK : GEOSCIENCE FOR EVERYONE DAY 🌎
You don’t have to be a scientist to appreciate Earth Science! Everyone benefits from the discoveries and processes of Earth Science. Here are some ways you likely experience geoscience without even realizing! 👩🏻🔬
Cell phones – the gold that is used in the microprocessors in your phone is mined from the Earth. 📱
Radiation – in the stratosphere, the ozone layer absorbs most of the harmful radiation from the Sun, allowing us to go outside on sunny days! 🌞
Water – understanding how and where rivers flood contributes to home building plans and insurance rates.🏘️
Salt – if you enjoy salt on your french fries, or the way a pinch of salt can enhance the flavors in a soup, then you benefit from the geological processes that form salt deposits.🧂

Additionally, we had a special visit from the Bloomfield Fire Department, who took the time to discuss important fire safety tips with our younger TMA students. Thank you to our local firefighters for their invaluable insights and for keeping our community safe! 🚒🔥
