Relax and reconnect with friends (both old and new) with cocktails and dinner; experience “The Jazz of Physics” with Dr. Stephon Alexander; and help us celebrate Talcott educator John Pellino as he retires after 45 years on the mountain.
The JAZZ of PHYSICS
As part of Talcott Together ’25, enjoy a trip into a universe of sight and sound when scientist and jazz saxophonist Stephon Alexander performs live in a presentation, “The Jazz of Physics.”
Dr. Alexander, a Professor of Physics at Brown University, began his journey to science in a Bronx high school where he was noticed by a teacher who saw in him scientific as well as musical potential. That teacher introduced him to the universe of jazz, fostering in Dr. Alexander connection between jazz legend John Coltrane and physics legend Albert Einstein.
During his presentation, he’ll talk, he’ll perform, and he’ll demonstrate how our attempts to answer cosmological questions have parallels in jazz improvisation. Dr. Alexander will also explore with us how music reflects concepts in science like quantum mechanics, general relativity, and the early Universe.
