Bus transportation is provided and required for all students and scholar volunteers during Summer of STEM Adventures. Our narrow mountain road cannot accommodate drop off and pick up traffic. We utilize two bus stops: West Hartford and Avon. You will be prompted to select a bus stop during registration.
Please do not drive to TMSC unless it has been previously authorized (for appointments, etc) by calling the main office at (860) 677-8571 or emailing us summer@tmsc.org.
Bus Procedure
Please arrive within the pick-up window in the morning. Look for the “Talcott Mountain Science Center” sign on the bus. The buses will leave each stop by 8:45. When you arrive at the bus, bring your child to the TMSC staff member, they will check off your child’s name as they board (our lists will be alphabetical by first name).
For afternoon bus dismissal, we will release your child when you have come up to our staff member, shown your ID, and your child’s name has been checked off the list. If there is a change of bus stop, or another person picking up your student, please call or email us.
If you are dropping off or picking up your child at our campus, you must fill out the sign in/out sheet in the main office. The main office will radio the teacher of your child’s class. Do not go directly to your child’s classroom.
We are using the “authorized pickups” feature in Active network, and will be checking the ID of everyone picking up a child. You can add/remove authorize pickup persons at any time within your Active network account. These could include grandparents, nannies, family friends, etc. We print the bus lists at noon on Friday the week before your program – if you make any changes after then, please email us so we can update our attendance lists. You can also call or email us, and we can add/change your authorized pickups for you.

- Log into your online account
- Under FAMILY MEMBERS section, click MANAGE AUTHORIZED PICKUPS button
- Select desired child from drop-down list
- Click +Add pickup to enter guardian’s name (required) and home phone number (optional)
- (Optional) Check box of Add another pickup to add additional guardian before saving
- Click SAVE
