Autumn on the mountain brings a distinct and welcome shift. As the vibrant canopy surrounding our campus turns to rich shades of crimson and gold, looking out over the Farmington Valley, our grounds have once again filled with the bright energy of a new school year. There is an unmistakable momentum on the ridge this fall—a sense that our mountaintop is stepping into one of the most transformative chapters in its history.
That momentum was built on an extraordinary summer. Over the past several months, Talcott was a hive of constant exploration. From the hands-on discovery and laughter of our Summer of STEM Adventures students to the high-level inquiry driven by the inaugural cohort of our TMRI Scholars Summer Research Program, our classrooms, outdoor trails, and laboratories were constantly in motion. Seeing students of all ages immerse themselves in genuine scientific discovery served as a powerful reminder of the unique educational environment we have cultivated here.

As we turn our focus to the season ahead, we are proud to share a landmark achievement that will shape the trajectory of our organization for years to come: Talcott has been awarded a $1.7 million federal appropriations grant from NASA. This recognition is both a validation of our long-standing impact and a powerful launchpad for our future. The grant directly advances all three dimensions of our mission—the Science Center, the Academy, and the Research Institute—by funding major technological and physical enhancements across campus:
- Planetarium Modernization: A complete, $1M+ technological transformation featuring state-of-the-art digital projection, immersive sound, and dynamic lighting.
- Observatory & Telescope Upgrades: Modernized optics and infrastructure at our main ridge observatory, elevating both public astronomy programs and student-led research projects.
- Data Science Infrastructure: Initial design, setup, & outfitting of dedicated data science facilities and lab space on campus, expanding our capacity for hands-on analytical learning across all our programs.
Beyond this historic award, this edition of The Talcott Continuum is packed with news showcasing the vitality of our community. Inside, you will get to know Dr. Corinne Green as she takes the reins as the new leader of Talcott Mountain Academy, read inspiring alumni spotlights, and learn how you can participate in our ongoing Brick Campaign walkway. You’ll also find details on upcoming fall programming, including our community Skygazing nights, Carl Sagan Day, and the TMA Winter Concert & Art Show.
Every milestone we celebrate on this ridge—every young mind ignited, every research project supported, every facility upgraded—is made possible because this community chooses to invest in curious minds. To our extended family of alumni, parents, educators, and friends: thank you for walking this path with us and helping us reach new heights.

With deep gratitude,

Jeff Martin
Executive Director
