Advancing Curiosity & Exploration Through Bold Research
Located on Talcott Mountain in Avon, Connecticut, Talcott Mountain Research Institute (TMRI) is a STEM-focused research center—an incubator for bold ideas where discovery and collaboration flourish. Extending the legacy of TMSCA—where the Science Center and Academy ignite young minds through immersive teaching and learning—TMRI propels STEM professionals, students of all ages and lifelong learners into research that drives discovery and sparks new connections across disciplines through educational programs, special events, and lecture series.
Talcott Mountain Research Institute Programs

Summer Program
Drawing on more than 60 years of STEM education and programming, Talcott Mountain Research Institute offers opportunities for high school students to extend their passion for the sciences during a four week summer research program.

On the Shoulders of Giants Lectures
The On the Shoulders of Giants Lectures brings leading STEM scholars and other creative thinkers to Talcott Mountain Research Institute for conversation and idea sharing around our understanding of the natural world.

STEM Travel Adventures
Join us on our next adventure around the world. TMRI will travel to Egypt in August 2027 for a total solar eclipse. This journey pairs rigorous scientific content with direct experience, inviting participants to encounter natural phenomena, landscapes, and cultures in ways that deepen understanding and spark wonder.

“TMRI is a place where we put curiosity to work.
It’s where we all—students, scientists, engineers, and mathematicians—ask questions, interrogate nature, and come to know things.”
Dr. Jay White
