DESCRIPTION:In Nature Collecting | Gr. 6-8: \nLearn how to find and catalogue nature like a real scientist! Using museum standards\, you’ll spend the week creating an herbarium collection and an insect collection. On our mountaintop campus you will find plants and insects – and back in the lab you’ll identify\, preserve\, and label them. Includes a field trip to the UConn Biodiversity Research Collections and Greenhouses ($50 field trip fee included in tuition). \nSchool might be out for summer\, but learning never stops at the Talcott Mountain Science Center! Classes run from 9:00 am – 4:00pm daily. Small class sizes on our mountaintop campus ensure hands-on instruction and individual attention. \n  \nREGISTER ONLINE \n$650 ($590 Early Bird – ends Feb. 14\, 2025)  \nSibling and multi-program discounts automatically applied at checkout.

DESCRIPTION:Everyone recognizes the butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other winged critters that explore during the day… but what about those wonderful winged wonders that fly about at night? \nDon’t miss Moth Night @ TMSC — a unique chance to touch\, photograph and learn about moths and other night-time critters! \nJoin us for a family-friendly event (ages 5+\, please) on Friday\, July 25\, from 8:00-10:00pm\, to celebrate National Moth Week with expert entomologists! With special lights to attract moths and other nocturnal insects — experts will guide you through a fascinating\, yet often unseen\, world on our mountaintop campus. You’ll be able to touch\, photograph\, and learn about a variety of species. \nThe evening includes an informational presentation\, identification guides to take home\, and fascinating stories about these amazing creatures.
