SUMMARY:3D Printing for Homeschoolers | Ages 10-13
DESCRIPTION:From prototype to print\, design real solutions for real-world problems! In this hands-on course\, students will explore the world of 3D printing and CAD (computer-aided design) by creating original models they can bring to life with our Prusa printers. Beyond just printing fun objects\, students will be challenged to identify real-world problems and design practical solutions. They’ll learn essential design principles\, how to prepare (“slice”) their models for printing\, and how 3D printers translate code into physical form. Along the way\, they’ll gain valuable skills in creative thinking\, troubleshooting\, and iteration\, just like real engineers and designers. \nClass runs from 9:30am – 1:30pm\, Fridays\, October 3 – November 7. \nREGISTER ONLINE\n$480 per student

SUMMARY:Skygazing on Talcott Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening of stargazing at Talcott Mountain Science Center’s mountaintop campus!  You’ll begin your night with a guided constellation tour in our planetarium\, followed by outdoor telescope viewing under the stars. \nWith our powerful telescopes\, we’ll search for stars\, planets\, deep sky objects\, and more! Saturn takes center stage at this special night under the stars! Join us for an unforgettable evening of skywatching as we turn our telescopes toward the planet’s dazzling rings and learn what makes it one of the crown jewels of our solar system. \nBecause much of the program takes place outdoors\, please dress for the weather — anticipating cooler temperatures on the mountain than in the surrounding towns. This program is ideal for both astronomy enthusiasts and curious minds ages 4 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult). \nDon’t miss this chance to experience the night sky from one of Connecticut’s most scenic and inspiring vantage points! \n$25/Adults (Ages 14+)\n$15/Children (Under 14) \nPURCHASE TICKETS ONLINE\nIn the event of cancellation due to inclement weather\, we will contact the primary registrant via email and/or phone. (Please provide accurate contact information when registering.) Any cancellations or postponements will be decided no later than noon the day of the event. \nQuestions prior to the event? Contact Danielle Limata at 860.677.8571 or email dlimata@tmsc.org. \nThis event is sponsored by:

SUMMARY:Curious Minds Workshop
DESCRIPTION:All children are born curious; it’s our job to help them stay that way. Let us help you give your student something much better than a Saturday on the couch scrolling. \nJoin us Saturday Nov 15th from 9 AM to 2 PM on the beautiful campus of Talcott Mountain Academy\, where curious minds ages 7–11 can explore hands-on STEM adventures in aerodynamics\, engineering\, ecosystems\, and stop-motion animation with our expert educators. \nWhile your child dives into discovery\, parents have the option to attend a special seminar with Dr. Kenneth Wright\, Dean of the Academy\, on “Perfectionism in High-Ability Kids” learning how to nurture healthy striving without toxic self-expectations. \nREGISTER TODAY \nSpaces are limited — register today and keep curiosity alive! \n  \n\nBrain Body Bootcamp \nStudents will strengthen focus\, coordination\, and problem-solving through structured movement and cognitive challenges\, exploring how physical activity supports learning and building teamwork. Ages 7-9. Teacher: Sean Conlin \nEngineering with Simple Machines \nStudents will explore levers\, pulleys\, gears\, and inclined planes through hands-on building and challenge activities. They’ll discover how simple machines help us solve some of engineering’s biggest problems. Ages 7-9. Teacher: Mike Moynihan \nStop Animation \nStudents will learn basic animation principles by designing characters\, building with clay\, and creating a short stop-motion film. Ages 7-9. Teacher: Katie Larsen \nEngineering Aerodynamics \nStudents will investigate flight by testing how design affects lift\, drag\, and thrust using paper airplanes\, gliders\, and exploring small rockets. Ages 9-11. SUMMARY:Ecology for Homeschoolers | Ages 6-9
DESCRIPTION:Why do cats have sharp teeth? Why does moss grow on trees? How do polar bears survive in the Arctic? This ecology class will tackle many of the “whys” that students have about interactions between animals\, plants\, and the environment. We will focus on adaptations to different biomes\, predator/prey interactions\, food webs\, and different kinds of symbiosis. We will learn about the live animals in our classroom (snakes\, hermit crabs\, and more!)\, look at specimens and bones\, build trophic pyramids\, and get grossed out by parasites. Students should come prepared with questions and curiosity! \nClass runs from 9:30am – 1:30pm\, Fridays\, March 20 – May 8. (No classes April 3 & April 17) \nREGISTER ONLINE\n$480 per student
